With Mercy Music we find a new accessibility from Scholz, a vulnerability that blends beautifully with the Pop atmosphere of the music. A more stripped-down, acoustic sound than before, Mercy Music allows Scholz’s lyrics to shine. His words remain contagious and thoroughly soulful while being laid against complex guitar arrangements, which will be familiar and also surprising to anyone who knows of Scholz’s previous work. Mercy Music truthfully stands to show no mercy to listeners in terms of how much quality music they can handle
